GYPSY (ROMA) HISTORY AND MINISTRY

Romania has the largest Gypsy (Roma) population in Europe. According to the last official census, roughly two million Roma, representing ten percent of the population, are living in Romania today. The Roma are highly discriminated against by most Romanians—who blame the Roma minority for all the troubles in Romania.

The Roma to this day are facing cruel poverty (living in houses without electricity or running water.) Many are trying to survive by begging in the street.

A large majority of abandoned children in Romania are Roma. REMM minsters to the Roma in a variety of ways.  Support has been given to Gypsy pastors to attend seminary, plant new Gypsy churches, supply materials for building homes, and provide medical help. All of these efforts are done in the love of Christ with the intention of breaking down the walls of prejudice that surround the Roma in everyday life.  Many mission teams have had an opportunity to share a worship service with the Gypsy churches around Beuis and are amazed by their passion and love for the Lord!

We ask that you prayerfully consider how you might be able to support this aspect of our ministry. We are working to change the lives of children—who would otherwise remain in the state institution system. Since we work with infants and younger children, our overhead is always heavy and continues to escalate. However, seeing these children change by the week makes one realize very quickly, that this "expense" is well worth the investment in just one changed life. We also ask for your continued prayers. We know that God will continue to provide for us, as He has in the past, through our faith and through the prayers and support of others who partner with us.
