MEDICAL MINISTRY
The Beius Christian Clinic began as a short-term medical mission in August 1990. In 2006, the Clinic was renamed The Thomas E. Williams Missions Center in memoriam of REMM co-founder Dr. Tom Williams.
In the beginning, the needs of Romanians were great, as people had no access to medical care and lacked money for medications. American physicians offered basic medical care out of a simple home. Through the generosity of many Americans, a full-time multiple room clinic was completed in late 1992, making available a laboratory, pharmacy, ultrasound radiography and multiple specialists (including general medicine, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, psychiatry, pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology). Christian Romanian doctors and nurses also support this ministry by providing medical care year round.
REMM is currently restructuring the clinic to return to our original goal of providing free health care to poor families. Rural villages are visited by mission teams. The teams work in makeshift clinics that are hosted in churches and homes. Hundreds of Romanians now have access to health care and medications that were otherwise not available. Romanians who visit the clinics are eager to hear the Truth of Jesus Christ, giving physicians and volunteers the opportunity to become preachers and evangelists!
There are many opportunities for medical ministry in the Beius area. Team members without formal medical training can support the medical workers by caring for those waiting to see a doctor or helping with supplies and after care.
