Peter's Story

Peter's Story. After the revolution in Romania in December, 1989 and the fall of communism, the Lord placed a very heavy burden on a Romanian born doctor by the name of Peter Lucaciu. This burden was to take the Good News of Jesus Christ to his fellow Romanians in Romania who for 45 years were deprived of Jesus Christ. Shortly after being reunited with his wife Ana and their oldest daughter, Anca, Peter was planning his return to his homeland.

Having been circled by a group of well-meaning believers in his church, these people were assisting Peter and his family to get acclimated to the American culture. It was during this process that Peter revealed his desire to bring the Gospel to Romania and that he had no desire to become a doctor in America. Then a few people who understood Peter's real passion gathered together with him and Ana and decided to raise funds to make this vision come to life. The result was in a short period of time, enough people committed to give him support as a missionary. Hence, R.E.M.M. was born.

Then in February, 1990, Peter convinced Wheaton surgeon Doctor Tom Williams to come with him to Romania to treat the sick and disabled in a makeshift clinic in the town of Beius, in Northwest Romania. Peter and Dr. Williams then convinced 15 other medical professionals to join them on this two week trip. Free medical consultation was offered, as well as free medicine. these people worked long hours during the day and invited those seeking to help to come to a local church or cultural center at night, where the doctors would present the Gospel and their personal testimonies. This plan was immensely successful. People lined up at dawn to see the doctors.

Since that initial trip, hundreds and hundreds of Americans have traveled at their own expense to Romania offering their time, talents, and treasures to evangelize. They put in long hours to help construct a four story medical clinic, purchase a warehouse, build an orphanage, buy and remodel a farm, treat the sick, rock the abandoned babies, and otherwise offer help to the hopeless people of Romania. Praise the LORD for these sacrifices!!

Peter Lucaciu was born in to a Christian family in Romania. His grandfather was the founder of a Baptist church. Peter's grandfather and father were preachers of the Gospel. He was trained at a medical school in Romania and was trained underground in a theological school. As a young man, he was a leader in a Baptist church in his homeland. The church was closed and sealed in 1984. Peter and his family have been persecuted by secret police. Despite of the persecution, he preached all over Romania.

In 1987, he and his son, Andrew, came to the United States. Only after eighteen months did the Communists release his family to come to the U.S.

After the revolution in 1989 when Ceausescu was overthrown, Peter went back to Romania. From that time on, he has preached hundreds of times all over his beloved homeland. Since then his mission to evangelize has extended to Moldova, the Ukraine, and Hungary.

Peter is the executive director of the Romanian Evangelistic Medical Mission. This now involves medical work and evangelism in Romania. In 1991 he was ordained as the first evangelist in Romania. In past summers Peter and his staff preached over 400 times. Often this entailed preaching five times a day to spiritually hungry Romanians.

The evangelistic-medical teams helped and ministered to hundreds of poor people and orphans in hospitals there in that needy land. Many Christians, as well as doctors, joined him in his ministry and mission in other eastern block countries. The summer teams also performed deeds of love and mercy in the three orphanages there

Ana Lucaciu coordinates most of the REMM activities related to mission teams housing, programming, financing, logistics, shipments of donations, and support of the local programs in Beius. It's at Ana's mother and father's house (adjacent to the medical clinic) that most of the mission teams stay in Beius during their mission work. Ana is always the answer person! And she has a great testimony, if you're fortunate enough to hear it!
